The Mount Holly Farmers Market was started by the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation in 2006. In our second year of operation the market, on paper, parted ways with the Foundation and became an independent organization. The Foundation is still a very integral part of the Farmer’s Market. The Mount Holly Farmer’s Market became a 501(c)(3) non-profit market in 2015. We are also proud to have incubated the Mount Holly Community Garden in 2015 to further the vision of giving the community access to grow their own food.​ In celebrating it’s 15th year, the market has grown from 3 vendors in 2006 to 30+ vendors in 2021.

We are the largest all volunteer market in North Carolina. From the Market Board to those that help setup and take down the market every Saturday, it is all run off volunteer power. The market focuses on supporting local small farms, educating our community on the advantages of eating fresh local food, and teaching our community to grow their own food.  An important distinction that the Mount Holly Farmer’s market has from it’s surrounding markets is that produce, specifically, is local and seasonal. Out of season produce is not allowed at the market and a farm vendor must grow at least 75% (some are even 100%) of what they sell. Vendor farms are frequently visited throughout the year to ensure this distinction stays intact. You will find a community that is engaged in the market and a market that is engaged in the community!
